Alloy Wheel Repairs

Keep your vehicle running smoothly.

At AWR we see lots of damaged alloy wheels caused by potholes, raised manhole covers or damage to the road surface. Often this can go unnoticed until it’s time to present the vehicle for its MOT, or replacement tyres need fitting. This is often marked out by the vehicle inspector in yellow crayon and referred to as “road wheel distortion”. This is marked on the MOT refusal as a “major defect” and dangerous to use on the road.

It’s often hard to spot a damaged wheel. Common signs could be:

  • Steering Wheel Vibration
  • Low Tyre Pressure
  • Uneven Tyre Wear

Our highly skilled technicians can check the wheel for you and carry out the necessary work with prices starting from £60 per wheel.

Wheel Welding

When a wheel is cracked, it needs to be welded. Cracks are often more common with larger wheels that are fitted with run flat tyres as the side walls are lot harder, allowing them to run flat.

You might notice that your tyre pressure regularly seems low, despite often topping it up. It could be that you have a hairline crack in your wheel which is letting air out.

If you think a wheel is in need of welding or you are unsure, just give us a call or call in and we’ll be happy to take a look and advise you.

If you have loose wheels in need of repair, simply drop them off and we’ll have them back to you in 2 working days.*

Wheel Straightening

It could be that your wheel has become buckled, most commonly as a result of a large impact from a pothole or bump in the road. This means that your wheel isn’t quite round anymore, meaning it no longer rolls smoothly.

In this case it needs to be straightened to return it to it’s former state. The process involves us heating the wheel and using our hydraulic press to push it back into shape.

If you think a wheel is in need of straightening or you are unsure, just give us a call or drop in and we’ll be happy to take a look and advise you.
