Alloy wheel refurbishment – Terms and conditions
Updated 1st December 2023
1. The Service
1.1 Prices
All pricing given via the website, email, telephone or face-to-face are quoted presuming the wheels do not need any remedial repair work. Welding, wheel straightening and heavy corrosion are additional services with prices displayed on the website and in-store. Some damage is not visible until the wheel is stripped of it’s existing coating. AWR will contact you if there is any additional work required as soon as possible, if this is not possible AWR will not continue any work until wehave spoken to the customer. AWR will do additional work without contacting the customer if the job sheet waiver has been signed by the customer upon dropping off the wheels/vehicle, videos and photos will be taken.
1.2 Timescales
Vehicle onsite.
Our estimated turnaround time is given upon bringing your vehicle to us. AWR aim to complete the wheels on the vehicle within 2 working days, however, additional work could delay this. AWR aim to keep the customer updated as to any delays or improvements on this time scale as soon as possible. AWR Hull accepts no responsibility for unforeseen delays within the process due to mechanical breakdowns or power outages etc.
Loose wheels
Our estimated turnaround time is given upon bringing your loose wheels to us. By definition of loose wheels we mean wheels with or without tyres. AWR aim to complete the loose wheels within 5 working days excluding the day of receipt however, additional work or busy periods could delay this. AWR aim to keep the customer updated as to any delays or improvements on this time scale as soon as possible. AWR Hull accepts no responsibility for unforeseen delays within the process due to mechanical breakdowns or power outages etc.
1.3 Finish & Colour matching
The images of products on our website are for illustrative purposes only. While we strive to represent colours as accurately as possible through our photographic and electronic processes, please note that the final colour displayed may be affected by the calibration of the device you are using.
The colour of the product may be impacted by factors such as manufacturing batch, age, or prior repairs. While every effort will be made to provide the closest possible colour match, you acknowledge and agree that a perfect colour match cannot be guaranteed. To ensure an imperceptible finish difference across multiple wheels, they must all be repainted simultaneously or at least 2 on the same side of the vehicle. We will only be responsible for any perceived difference between the wheels we have been authorised to refinish during the same repair occasion. For custom colour bookings, you must provide the paint code and if possible we can then order the paint at an additional cost to you. Please note AWR do not supply paint codes, samples displayed in-store are a guide only.
1.4 Wheel Fitting
If your wheels are coming in “on the vehicle” we will remove the wheels and refit once the wheels are refurbished or repaired, re-torquing to the manufacturer’s specification. Customers are reminded that it is their responsibility to check the tightness of the wheel nuts or bolts after a 25-mile bedding in period, and regular intervals going forwards. We can do this free of charge for you within standard business opening hours.
1.5 Locking Wheel Nuts and wheel bolts
Any vehicle presented to us needs the locking wheel nut to be present in the cabin of the vehicle and on view for the wheel technician, we will not remove excess items to locate it from any vehicle to avoid damage to personal possessions. Please be aware that we will un-tighten the locking nut with a strong arm only and no battery or pneumatic tools will be used, if we are unable to loosen them or the security key breaks you will need to take the vehicle to a local garage or tyre shop. Often these are refitted with heavy impact guns and over tightened. Please ensure you check the wheel nuts prior to bringing the vehicle to us, if you cannot loosen them yourself, you will need to visit a garage before bringing the vehicle to us. Customers are reminded that it is their responsibility to check the tightness of the locking wheel nuts or bolts after a 25-mile bedding in period, and regular intervals going forward. We can do this free of charge for you within standard business opening hours. If wheel bolts or locking nuts need to be replaced, the cost will be charged back to the customer at cost price only, AWR will inform the customer before we carry out such work.
2. Limitations to the Service and Additional Charges
2.1 Wheel Refurbishment
Wheel refurbishment is exactly that. It is not brand new OEM wheel. AWR are committed to producing a very high-quality service, using the best quality products on the market and with a high level of attention to detail, however on occasions, a used wheel may not be 100% perfect, and this should be noted. Replacing alloy wheels for a brand-new set is extremely costly, in comparison to a wheel refurbishment service, it is often noted that a refurbishment service for a full set of alloys compares to the cost of a single brand-new alloy wheel, so the refurbishment is a fraction of the cost of replacing the wheels for new. We strive for the best quality finish and are perfectionists at heart. The wheels are fully inspected after the old coating has been removed, and if the wheel is found to be in poor condition (which in some cases may mean the wheels are unsuitable for refurbishment), the customer will be advised of any additional remedial work (if at all possible) and charges that will be incurred for us to correct them. Excessively damaged and corroded wheels often take much longer to prepare and are on occasion not fit for refurbishment. AWR will endeavour to advise of any additional charges when we see the wheels upon arrival, however, please note that some damage is not visible until the wheel has been stripped. Please note certain finishes such as chrome effects, shadow chrome, Decor silver, hyper silver and gloss black, tend to show blemishes more readily, depending on the original condition and age of the wheels. In some cases, AWR cannot guarantee a perfect finish, as this is typically only noticeable upon close inspection and not visible when the wheel is mounted on the vehicle. If a customer requests a ‘as new finish’ or show wheels, additional charges will apply. These charges will be calculated on an hourly labour rate of £50 per hour plus VAT and the cost of the materials. Additional Charges are incurred for:
• Bad corrosion (minor curb damage is included within the standard wheel refurbishment prices)• Welding – deep Kerb damage
• Poor wheel casting
• Cracks or splits
• Wheel straightening
2.2 Corrosion
Over time excessive corrosion removes metal from the surface of the wheel usually visible with bubbles and blisters on the outside of the alloy wheel. The longer corrosion is allowed to progress into the alloy, the deeper the pitting will be. While applying new coatings may mask and hide a degree of the surface degradation of the wheel, it cannot completely restore the pitted metal surface. Wheels that have been allowed to corrode will not therefore ever be restored to an as-new finish. The deeper the corrosion, the more this will be visible in the refinished wheel depending on the chosen colour.
2.3 Wheel Valves
Standard Rubber TR414 premium valves are replaced and are included in the standard refurbishment price.
Additional Charges are incurred for:
Rubber stem TPMS valves cannot be reused and are often the cause of leaking air pressure on older vehicles due to improper periodic maintenance, Rubber TPMS valves are not included in the standard wheel refurbishment prices and will incur extra costs displayed on the website or in-store. We only fit high quality OEM or European replacements. It is the owner’s responsibility to let us know if such a tyre pressure monitoring system is in place.
Metal Clamp in TPMS valves can be re-used if they are unbolted successfully, it is advised after the wheel refurbishment that a new seal kit is used or to replace the full valve stem as often this is the cause of leaking air pressure on older vehicles due to improper periodic maintenance. Metal TPMS valves are not included in the standard wheel refurbishment prices and will incur extra costs displayed on the website or in-store. We only fit high quality OEM or European replacements. It is the owner’s responsibility to let us know if such a tyre pressure monitoring system is in place.
Please refer to your vehicles handbook when the wheels are back on the vehicle and re-calibrate them as per the manufacturers instructions to the vehicles onboard system.
2.4 Welding
Any welding work we undertake is at the owner’s own risk. Whilst we will not attempt any repairs that are deemed unsafe to begin with, the responsibility is held with the customer. Some cracks are unrepairable in some instances. If the repair required is deemed unfit and could deem the wheel unsafe, we will not undertake the repair work. A weld can never be as strong as a original alloy casted wheel therefore we offer no warranty on any weld repair. This is only a temporary repair and we advise to buy a new wheel. Please be aware that during the processes the paint /powder coating can get damaged and we will not be held responsible for this.
2.5 Wheel Straightening
Any straightening work we undertake is at the owner’s own risk. Whilst we will not attempt any repairs that are deemed unsafe to begin with, the responsibility is held with the customer. Some buckles are unrepairable in some instances. If the repair required is deemed unfit and could deem the wheel unsafe, we will not undertake the repair work. During wheel straightening, heat and pressure is used to straighten any bends. This process can cause cracking in the wheel. We will not be held responsible for any damage caused during this process and ask the customer to note that remedial work such as this is undertaken at their own risk. We take every care when undertaking these processes, however the extent of some damage is not visible to the naked eye and only comes to light when the wheel is put under pressure causing the wheel to crack. If this happens AWR where possible can weld the wheel and you will be advised to buy new wheel. Please be aware that during the processes the paint /powder coating can get damaged and we will not be responsible for this.
2.6 Damaged / Illegal Tyres / Punctures
AWR will not refit tyres that are deemed to be unfit and illegal, which includes tread depth, cracks, and general condition/age. Dangerous or illegal tyres will not be refitted and the customer will be advised to bring a replacement tyre or we can supply new tyre required to complete the job. If AWR feel a tyre is unsafe and a customer insists that it is refitted, the wheel and tyre will be given back “bare” without the tyre on the rim and fitting charges not applied to the invoice for the affected wheel.
If a puncture is found upon inspecting or removing the tyre we will call the customer to inform and ask if they would like us to repair. Repairs will only be carried out if safe and legal to British standard BS AU 159. Additional charges for punctures can be found on the website or in-store.

Powder coated wheels come with a 12-month warranty. Diamond cut wheels come with a 6-month warranty. This covers against any defective paint materials, subject to the damage not being caused by a result of driver damage, stone chips or the use of corrosive cleaners which dull lacquer over time. 5.3 Claims Made Under Warranty
Any claim made under the warranty will be settled by free rework, or (at the discretion of Alloy Wheel Refurbishment Hull Ltd), a refund for the relevant part of the invoice (for example if one wheel was affected, the cost of one wheel would be refunded). The maximum refund would be limited to the original value, and we would not be held responsible for any consequential loss because of the repair. We will not accept liability for any technical or structural damage to wheels where such damage occurs due to pre-existing faults or wear and tear.
